KALPPATTA: Another farmer commits suicide due to bank debt. Dineshan (60), the deceased, had an outstanding debt of over Rs 20 lakhs at four banks. After swallowing poison at his house on Friday, Dineshan was taken to Mananthavady district hospital. He passed away by morning. This is the eighth farmer suicide at Wayanad in the past six months.

Dineshan had availed loans for agriculture from Panamaram Bank, Canara Bank, North Malabar Gramin Bank, and Panamaram Service Co-operative Bank. He had the possession of four acres of land. Dineshan’s relatives state that his crops were spoiled by wild elephants which was a major setback. Wife: Sujithakumari. Daughters: Suvidha, Darshana. In-law: Manoj.
