THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Thirteen NDA candidates lost their security deposit in the Lok Sabha polls in Kerala. The BJP expected more in the polls this time. However, they faced severe drubbing. The BJP had earlier mentioned that Sabarimala was a golden opportunity for them.
Kummanam Rajashekaran resigned the post of Mizoram governorship and was fielded as the BJP candidate in Thiruvananthapuram. Suresh Gopi MP and Union Minister Alphons Kannamthanam also contested the polls. But expectations were not of their choice. 13 of the 20 NDA candidates lost their security deposits. Alphons Kannamthanam, BDJS leader Thushar Vellappally and BJP former state president C K Padmanabhan lost their security deposit.
A candidate gets his security deposit only if he gets 16.1% of the total votes. Only seven NDA candidates were about to garner so much votes.
Kummanam Rajashekaran (Thiruvananthapuram), Shobha Surendran (Attingal) C Krishna Kumar (Palakkad), K Surendran (Pathanamthitta), Suresh Gopi (Thrissur), K S Radhakrishnan (Alappuzha) and P C Thomas (Kottayam) are the candidates who will get their security deposit back. Thushar and Kannamthanam were defeated miserably.
A N Radhakrishnan (Chalakudy), Yuva Morcha state president advocate Prakash Babu (Kozhikode) and Mahila morcha state president V T Rema (Ponnani) lost their security deposit. None of the BDJS leaders will get their security deposit back.
State secretary V K Sajeevan (Vadakara), BDJS leader T V Babu (Alathur), minorities morcha leader Sabu Varghese (Kollam), BDJS leader Thazhava Sahadevan (Mavelikara), BDJS leader Biju Krishnan (Idukki), Raveesha Tantri Kundar (Kasargod) are the other candidates who lost their security deposit.
