KOTTAYAM: A departmental action has been taken against Gandhi Nagar sub inspector M S Shibu, reinstated after a year of suspension following disciplinary action in the Kevin murder case. The departmental action taken was that he has been demoted as the most junior sub inspector of the state. Shibu, who was sub inspector of Gandhi Nagar station, has been transferred to Idukki. The act of reinstating him after suspension had stoked a controversy. Soon after this came the order of IG Vijay Sakhare taking departmental enquiry against him.
Meantime, DGP Lokanath Behera said that he came to know through media reinstating Shibu into service. The family of Kevin came to the fore launching an attack against Shibu. Kevin’s father Joseph said that he will lodge a complaint to the chief minister, opposition leader and human rights commission.
The IG had issued a termination notice against Shibu following findings of serious lapses from his side in the case. The notice was given based on the investigating report of Vinod Pillai, Kottayam administration DYSP. However, IG Vijay Sakhare found his reply to the notice as satisfactory. Following that the move of his termination was withdrawn.
