THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Uncertainty over Vattiyoorkavu by-election continues even as by-elections have to happen in six Assembly constituencies in Kerala as the MLAs there have been elected as MPs.
The by-election in Vattiyoorkavu Assembly constituency becomes necessary as sitting Congress MLA Muraleedharan has been elected as the MP from Vadakara Lok Sabha constituency.
During 2016 Assembly election, K Muraleedharan has won the election from Vattiyoorkavu and this was questioned by the opposite BJP candidate Kummanam Rajasekharan in a petition he had submitted in the high court.
In his petition, Rajasekharan had contended that Muraleedharan did not declare his assets and liabilities fully before the returning officer.
The suppression amounts to corrupt practice, the BJP leader alleged while seeking to set aside the election of Muraleedharan.
But Muraleedharan managed to get a stay from the Supreme Court against the petition.
