THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Government’s stand on Sabarimala issue was right, says CPI (M) state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan. Talking to the press after the state committee meeting, he said that the main problem is the drop in vote share, that is, a five percent drop from the 40 percent in the last Lok Sabha polls which reminiscent of UDF’s debacle in 2004.
“Any other stand was not possible in Sabarimala issue. Equality of sex is the left stand. BJP and Congress welcomed the SC verdict. It is the responsibility of the government to implement the SC verdict. Some communities came with protest initially and Congress and BJP took part later. Then massive campaigns were staged”, Kodiyeri said.
“Women wall organized by Navothana Samrakshana Samithi was a huge success. This destroyed RSS’ agenda of communal polarization. The state committee evaluated that after January 1 there weren’t enough campaigns. At this time Congress and BJP campaigned in a door to door basis. The enemies were able to mislead a section of voters. But the LDF will be able to regain the faith of devotees”, Kodiyeri Balakrishnan added.
