KOCHI: Health Minister K.K. Shailaja has clarified that there is no need to postpone the reopening of schools in light of Nipah scare.
“The present situation doesn’t demand shutting down schools. After proper analysis, the government will decide on this in two days”, she said.
A person will show symptoms of Nipah around 4 to 14 days after infection. As a precaution, the patient has to be kept under observation for almost twice those days in order to confirm that the disease has been purged.
Health Minister KK Shylaja said that though the initial medical tests at the Virology Institute suggested a suspected case of Nipah in the patient, final confirmation can only be made after the results from the National Virology Institute, Pune are received.
