THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The rainy season is round the corner. When there is some commotion or noise at night during a rainy day, we don’t give much attention to it. We presume those sounds to be a falling tree branch or thunder and continue to stay on bed without bothering to put on the light or get up from bed. But this laziness proves advantageous for robbers. Now, the Kerala Police have come out with some warnings in this regard. “Don’t switch off the lights at the front side of the house, rear side and kitchen area; don’t keep gold ornaments and other costly materials inside home; keep window panes closed, don’t open the door if a stranger rings the calling bell and instead, talk to them standing near the window,” goes the long list of warnings from the police.
The above information has been posted on the official FB page of the Kerala police.
Other instructions include:
1) Use strong locks on front and back doors
2) Don’t leave materials like iron lever, rods, machetes, knife etc. outside the house carelessly as it can come in handy for robbers to break into the house.
3) If you find anyone suspicious outside your house, call the police, neighbour or residents association members (Police help is available on number 112 and call 9846100100 for help in highway areas.)
4) When you lock the house and go away for days together don’t leave any signs that you are away from home for long. Thus, don’t switch the light on and go, ask paper boy not to drop paper in to your house compound and don’t make it appear that you have locked the house by leaving lock outside.
5) In case, the robbery occurs, inform others and go searching on four vehicles in four directions simultaneously. And, don’t touch doors, insides of rooms so that fingerprints are not lost.
