NEW DELHI: A review of the LDF poll debacle by the CPM central committee that met at New Delhi on Thursday came to the conclusion that the left government in Kerala couldn’t garner a commendable vote share in the just concluded Lok Sabha elections. In the review report, it said that the party’s opponents were able to mislead the devotees over the issue of Sabarimala but it clarified that the party’s stand on the issue cannot be changed in anyway.
After a thorough scrutiny, the committee said that the devotees were made to divert their attention from the real issue in Sabarimala, due to the opposing parties using the issue to further their vested interests.
The party’s central authority will also advise the state leadership on how it can educate the voters on the real situation in Sabarimala. The committee also pointed out that historically, in Kerala, the minority votes always reached the either front, sometimes alternatively. It also said that the traditional votes of the CPM were also lost due to Sabarimala issue, this time.
The party couldn’t effectively counter the flow of votes to the party’s adversaries. The country-wide campaigns by the BJP, too, caused serious damage to the vote share of the party, the committee report ascertained.
After reaching a consensus on the results of the election, the central committee will give counter measures to the party’s state leaderships, on tackling similar situations in the future. The committee made it clear that it wasn’t at all considering the resignations of the party general secretary or anyone else for that matter. It added that it would decide on it at a convenient time, if anyone approached the party with a request for resignation.
