KOTTAYAM: A youth faced a threat of getting charged with sexual offense from a SI after reaching out to a station to settle financial disputes with his neighbor. The youth residing in Palakkattumala filed a complaint with the district police chief Harisankar, in which the incident is detailed. He has also filed a complaint with the Human Rights Commission, the district collector, and DGP.

A salesman of a business run by the Palakkattumala native’s neighbor filed a complaint with the SP that he is yet to receive Rs One Lakh owed by the defendant. Both were called to Marangattuppilly Police Station. While quizzing the defendant, the SI is said to have threatened him. As per him, the police asked to pay up Rs 65,000 or else face jail time for a sexual abuse case which is non-bailable in nature.

In the Palakkattumala native’s complaint, the SI made him sign forcefully on station document. He says that the threat from the police is unbearable and difficult to live with. An investigation has been initiated on the youth’s complaint, it is learned. However, the police denied this.
