THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: With the onset of monsoon, the instances of electrocution due to snapped electric wires have increased. The death of two morning walkers at Chackai when they stepped over a live electric wire that was lying covered with a pool of rainwater has shocked the people, who are looking for ways to prevent such tragedies.
Some tips
1) Don’t touch the line or water even after removing the fuse
2) Keep a good distance from the broken line
3) Call 9496061061 for emergency help
4) Use bamboo pole, tree branch or plastic materials to relieve the person who is under electric shock.
5) Give artificial respiration and first aid to the person after he is rescued from the shock
6) Use resuscitation technique to save the affected person
7) Rush the person to hospital if there is no external injury
8) If you want to cut down trees or branches grown above the line, inform the KSEB office, disconnect the power supply and then cut the tree or branch.
9) Don’t tie cattle or other animals to the electric post or stay wire.
10) Don’t tie clothesline to electric posts
11) Don’t allow children to play near stay wire or electric posts.
