VARKALA: Just days after the woman cop Soumya was burned to death in Mavelikkara, a similar attempt has been reported. A youth tried to set a woman ablaze for rejecting his marriage proposal. Sinu (25), a Varkala native, has been arrested for this.

The woman on her statement to the police said that the youth got inside the room by removing roof tiles. The woman didn’t accept the youth’s marriage proposal even after repeated requests. Following this, Sinu entered her bedroom by removing roof tiles.

The youth then poured petrol on his and the woman’s body after voicing a suicide threat. At this time, only the woman and her sister was in the house. Lives were saved as the neighbours heard the sounds of the woman crying out for help and reached out, police says.
