VALLIKUNNAM: In the Mavelikkara incident in which a policewoman was burnt to death by policeman, the investigation team has come to the inference that Mavelikkara CPO Soumya Pushpakaran and accused Ajas were known to each other for quite a long time. Even from the beginning of the probe, their acquaintance was evident, according to the police.
Their acquaintance began when they were together attending training in KAP battalion. It later grew into a friendship between them.
Ajas, who was unmarried, reportedly wooed Soumya. He used to call her up but she always rejected his marriage proposal, according to Soumya’s mother’s statement.
Soumya’s elder son Rishikesh said that even long before, she had received death threat from Ajas. “My mother has told me that if anything happens to her, Ajas will be responsible and I should inform this to the police... My mother was very much scared; she had some financial dealing with Ajas. I have felt that Ajas, mostly, talked about money matters. My mother used to get angry with Ajas, asking him not to call her again,” he recalled.
Soumya was burnt to death on Saturday while she was returning home after duty.
