PALAKKAD: The Congress MP from Palakkad, V.K. Sreekandan, fulfilled his oath that stood for 30 years. Years back, he took a pledge that he will shave off his beard when CPM loses the election in Palakkad constituency. Now, after defeating CPM candidate M B Rajesh in Palakkad constituency, Sreekandan kept his pledge and shaved off his beard.
Sreekandan was a student at Shoranur SN college. At that time, a group of SFI-DYFI activists attacked him. The attackers stabbed on his cheek with a broken bottle of soda. The glass pieces pierced his left cheek and he was admitted in ICU with 13 stitches. Even after discharging from the hospital, he was left with an injury mark in the shape of the letter ‘L’. To cover the mark, he decided to grow a beard.
The doctor suggested not to shave off the beard until the injury heals completely, which was also one of the first reason for growing the beard. When his beard grew on the injury made by the rival party, Sreekandan felt a makeover. But as the beard grew, he started to face this question. When you will shave off your beard? This question was repeated by his family members and friends too. “I will shave off my beard when I defeat the party which attacked me,” he replied to this question.
Sreekandan posted on Facebook to announce the fulfillment of his pledge.
