IDUKKI: Vijay, widow of Rajkumar, a remand prisoner who died of brutal torture, came to the fore rejecting the allegation that CPM leaders threatened her. None of the parties had threatened me and all parties are with her, she told a private channel. She said that her husband is a daily wager and has studied only till eighth standard. I came to know of his involvement in a financial fraud case only after he was arrested. She sought a probe on how her husband who neither knows English or Malayalam got involved in a financial fraud case. Also a probe should be conducted on his financial source.
His relatives had alleged earlier that a local leadership of the CPM has intervened in the custodial torture. His relative Antony alleged that a policeman of Nedumkandam police reached their house many times and threatened them soon after his death. Antony will give his statement to the investigating officials. Rajkumar had lent an amount of Rs one core collected from self-help groups to a noted personality. In addition, he had given for blade interest an amount of Rs 60 lakh. Rs 72,500 from it has been recovered from various places. He was subjected to brutal torture after he revealed the name of the person whom he lent money.
CCTV clippings show that two policemen escorting Rajkumar to the station on June 12. With this, the claim that he was taken into custody on June 16 has turned to be a lie.
