ANGAMALY: A young businessman from Angamaly climbed up a tree with his gun on Saturday morning and shouted that he would commit suicide in protest against KSEB authorities who denied him an electric connection to his firm in which he had invested crores of rupees.

The man has been identified as New Year Chit fund owner M M Prasad. Apart from his licensed gun, he also has poison with him. The police and fire force which have reached the spot has been making attempts to bring him down. But, Prasad is adamant that he would not come down unless the district collector reaches the place and assures him of help in getting the connection.

Prasad has started New Year Exporters in Angamaly two years ago for exporting tea powder but certain KSEB officials allegedly denied him electric connection, citing certain technical reasons.

Till now he has not got the connection. According to his friends, he was in deep distress over this as he had spent crores of rupees to set up his firm.
Over the past 110 days, he has been protesting, sitting in front of Karukutty KSEB office. Today he decided to take the drastic step as there was no interference in his case even at the government level.
