KOTTAYAM: The guilty cops would be charged with murder in the custodial death case of Rajkumar. In the meanwhile two cops who were under suspension in connection with his death, attempted suicide.

Rajkumar was taken into custody on June 12. But, the police stated that he was taken into custody on June 16. When examined the CCTV installed at the Nedumkandam police station, the footages of Rajkumar brought to the station on the 12th night were found. It was clear that the accused was produced before the court on the fourth day of taking him into custody. This is seen as a serious lapse from the side of the police.

The post mortem report revealed that he was subjected to third degree methods. A proof of it is that the flesh of thighs were found separated from the bone. There were injuries and bruises all over his body. All these shows that he was subjected to brutal torture. When examined the CCTV clippings, many were found deleted. The CCTV was found switched off in various times. All these points to third degree methods.

He died on June 21st. He was taken to the hospital from Peerumedu sub jail. There were injuries on his face after beaten severely and he was not even given a drop of water. He was taken to his house on the next day of taking him into custody for collecting evidence. The local residents told crime branch IG Gopesh Agarwal that he was beaten brutally in front of his mother on that day. He was taken to the jail breaking all rules. The police should have a doctor’s certificate when an accused is brought to the jail.
