KOZHIKODE: More and more transgenders in Kerala are gearing up for higher studies. In Kozhikode, two transgenders, Sanjana Chandran and Anamika, joined graduate courses today (Monday).
Sanjana Chandran joined B A English literature and the other joined B Com.
The odd students who got enrolled in Malabar Christian college were received by other students with applauds and bouquets.
The duo is on cloud nine as they were able to get admission without hiding their personality. It was the realisation that education is essential for a livelihood that took them to the corridors of the college.
“Our aim is to resume studies that we discontinued in midway. Along with this, we want to show society what a transgender means and that we also have the right to be in the mainstream. This is the reason why we joined the college now,” Sajna said.
Meanwhile, the College Union has also extended its emotional support to them. “They can expect from us any help. We’ll be with them with all our support…” they said.
Malayalam’s first transgender actress Anjali Ameer will also seek admission in Christian College this month itself.
