KOCHI: The Kerala High Court has given the approval for structural changes in Lower Primary and Upper Primary Schools of the state. A full bench of the high clarified that there is nothing wrong in changing the structure. According to the new National Education Act, classes from first to fifth will be shifted to lower primary (LP) and from sixth to eight to upper primary (UP). The full bench of the high court has now approved this.

The change is after including fifth class in the LP section and eighth class to the UP section. The court specifying that the government is liable to comply with the Right to Education Act informed to permit relaxation in the law ensuring travel facilities for students. The order of the three-member bench of the high court is that primary education is the right of the student and the government is liable to make it available.

The high court held that the objections raised by the government in restructuring the education structure in accordance with the law do not exist. Education is more important than anything else. So, there should be no compromises or moves. Ensure education for all children and so the Right to Education Act should be approved, the court pointed. Presently, classes from one to four comes under lower primary and 5 to 7 under upper primary. A change was brought after the Right to Education Act came into being.
