THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A SFI activist has been taken into custody for stabbing a third degree student of the University College on Friday. Ijab, a native of Nemom, one among the thirty arraigned in the incident was the one taken into custody. The cantonment police said the arrest of Ijab, local unit committee member of the SFI, will be registered after detailed interrogation. However, the police have so far not been able to nab the seven main SFI leaders in the case. They are absconding and were not able to find them in a search conducted.
The police have registered a case against Sivarenjith, Nazeem, Amar, Adwaith, Aadil, Aaromal, Ibrahim and thirty others. Though it was informed that the accused will be in the students centre controlled by the SFI and organisational offices the police have not conducted a search. Meantime, it has also been alleged that police is trying to save Nazeem and Sivarenjith selected in constable section and are trying to settle the case. The CPM district leaders have denied it.
Meantime, Akhil’s father Chandran said that his son told him that it was SFI unit president Sivarenjith and secretary Nazeem, who stabbed him. When Nazeen and his friends caught hold of him, Sivarenjith stabbed him. There were students from outside the college. All the accused should be nabbed. The CPM leadership has promised all support, he said.
Akhil, a SFI activist and a degree student was attacked in a clash that broke out over singing in the canteen. Akhil, who was stabbed on the chest is in the intensive care unit of the medical college. He was subjected for a surgery and is out of danger but remains unresponsive and so the police was not able to register his statement. The investigating team will reach the hospital again and take his statement.
