THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Seven students of the University College have been suspended indefinitely in the case of stabbing Akhil Chandran, a final degree student. The college council which convened here Monday suspended the seven from the college. Sivarenjith, Nazeem A N, Amar A R, Adwaith Manikandan, Aadil Muhammed, Aaromal S Nair and Muhammed Ibrahima are those suspended. The order suspending them has pointed that the seven should not enter the college without the permission of the principal and cancelled their identity cards also. The order has stated that steps will be taken against the others involved in the incident after the report of the investigating panel is submitted. In the meantime, Sivarenjith and Nazeem arrested in the case have confessed to the crime, informed the cantonment police. Sivarenjith has admitted of stabbing Akhil. Police said more interrogation is needed to know other things.

Meantime, the police has arrested five including the first and second accused R Sivarenjith and A N Nazeem in the case of stabbing Akhil Chandran. They were nabbed from Kesavadasapuram Monday early morning at 2.30 am. The cantonment police arrested the third accused Adwaith, sixth accused Aaromal and seventh accused Aadil last evening. A team led by circle inspector Anil Kumar took them into custody while they were trying to escape from Thampanoor railway station. Meanwhile, a probe has been announced after university answer sheets were found from the house of Sivarenjith in a raid conducted.

In the meantime, the police arrested Ijab, a SFI activist, who is not in the accused list, from his house in Nemom Sunday morning. Ijab is included in the case taken against thirty identifiable people. Though he was not in the place when the incident happened, he told police that he doesn’t know who stabbed Akhil. Ijab told police that Sivarenjith and Nazeem had a knife with them. He was remanded. Others will be produced in the court today and remanded.

Meantime, the police was not able to record the statement of Akhil undergoing treatment in the hospital. Though cantonment circle inspector Anil Kumar and his team reached the hospital at 12 noon yesterday, the doctors attending on Akhil did not permit them to record his statement as his health condition was not satisfactory. The police expect to record his statement in the next couple of days.
