THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The governor is intervening in the University College issue. Governor P Sathasivam has sought a report from university vice chancellor in the wake of violence in the college and controversies related to answer sheets.
Meantime, the Judicial First Class Magistrate III court has remanded five accused in the stabbing case of Akhil Chandran of University College, till July 29. First accused and SFI unit president Sivarenjith, second accused and unit secretary A N Nazeem, fourth accused and Kollam Pathanapuram native Adwaith Manikandan (19), fifth accused Kilimanoor native Aadil Muhammed (20) and sixth accused Aaromal (18), native of Neyyattinkara. Another accused Ijab was remanded on Sunday.
The accused have been charged with unlawful gathering, armed insurgency, beatings, unjust detention, death threats and murder attempt.
The remand report submitted in the court has mentioned that Sivarenjith stabbed Akhil aiming to kill him. Akhil’s friend Umair Khan, a third degree Malayalam student, had sung in the canteen earlier. SFI unit members had questioned this and threatened him after summoning him to the union room.
On that day, the accused had insulted Umair for not entering class. When the girls decided to bunk classes in protest against it, the accused unleashed violence in the college. Akhil was chased and stabbed when he tried to flee after seeing the accused attacking Umair. The police has not been able to record the statement of Akhil undergoing treatment in the hospital.
