KOLLAM: The mother of the seven-year-old girl, who was raped and murdered by Karikkam Vadakke Cherukara Rajesh (25) in one of the most heinous crimes, broke down soon after the court pronounced the verdict on Wednesday.

The convict was awarded three life sentences. He also has to undergo 26 years of rigorous imprisonment apart from life sentences.

Soon after the verdict, the mother went near the former Anchal CI Abhilash and burst into tears, falling on his feet. She touched his feet and folded her hands in respect and gratitude. In a shivering voice, she said “thanks”. She was also heard saying, “may no mother go through such a state”.
