KANCHEEPURAM: Now, if you want see Athivarada Perumal, you have to wait for another forty years. Why should you, when lakhs of devotees including Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive here for darshan.

The rare darshan can be had in a temple four kilometres away from Tamil Nadu’s Kancheepuram. It is Varadaperumal temple.

The prime minister will reach here for darshan on July 23 and the president Ramnath Kovinth on August 12. The unique idol of the temple deity that was raised from Ananthasaras Pushkarani pond to the Vasantha madapam on July 1 is in the reclining posture now. From July 24 onwards, devotees can have a darshan of the standing posture of the deity.

After 48 days of darshan the idol will be safely kept inside the silver casket and immersed back into the depths of the temple pond. The next resurrection will be only on 2059.

Athivaradar temple in Kancheepuram is one of the most famous Vishnu temples in India. What is important here is the Athivaradar festival that happens only once in 40 years. This festival can be attended only once or twice in a human life span.
