LONDON: The United Kingdom on Saturday threatened Iran with a ‘considered but robust’ reaction, just a day after a UK-flagged oil tanker ‘Stena Impero’ was seized by the Middle Eastern nation in the Strait of Hormuz.
British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt tweeted, “Our reaction to Iran’s action will be considered but robust. We have been trying to find a way to resolve the Grace1 issue but will ensure the safety of our shipping.” It must be noted that the UK had earlier detained an Iranian oil tanker off the British Overseas Territory coat on July 4.
Stena Impero was captured by Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps on Friday on charges of violating international regulations. The crew of the ship includes Indian, Russian, Filipino and Latvian nationals. The Indian government is currently in touch with the Iranian government so as to ensure the safety of the Indian crewmembers. It must be noted that a Liberian-flagged ship, which was captured on the same day, was let off immediately.
