MANJESHWARAM: A gold smuggling team is suspected to be behind the abduction of a plus two student at Manjeshwaram in Kasargod. A four-member team abducted Abdurehman Harris, son of Aboobacker of Kaliyoor, while he was on his way to the school. Police said they are suspicious of gold smuggling gangs behind the incident. However, the student has not been found even after three days.
Harris was going to school along with his sister, a ninth standard student. The incident happened a kilometre away from his house. He was forcefully taken in a car by the gang who arrived. His sister soon informed her parents. According to the girl's statement, the police have registered a case against four known victims.
District police chief James Joseph said they have obtained information that financial dealings are behind the incident. The boy is believed to have been kidnaped over a financial dealing with Aboobacker’s relative who is in the Gulf. He was abducted with the help of a quotation gang. Hints have obtained about the gang and unconfirmed reports say they fled to Manguluru.
