KOCHI: Denying allegations against him, SI Vipin Das has said it was not he who broke CPI MLA Eldo Abraham’s hand during the lathi-charge against CPI youth workers on Monday.
The lathi-charge happened during the CPI protest march to Range IG’s office.
Eldo had released the picture of the SI beating him but the latter asserted that it was an edited photo and he didn’t not even see Eldo in the melee. “The video of the tussle during the march has come out but only in the photo, it looks like I’m beating Eldo,” he said.
The photo that was released shows Vipin Das beating Eldo, who is trying to calm down the strikers and sent them back when the situation turns violent.
In between, an allegation was also raised that the ‘tainted’ SI beat the MLA according to the instruction of someone else. Later, Eldo criticised the functioning of the Kerala police and said that the CPI would remain a whistle-blower in the government.
CPI district Secretary P Raju’s head was also injured when Eldo was allegedly being beaten up by the police. P Raju said that the police had beaten them without any provocation, heeding to the instructions of Assistant Commissioner of Police Lalji.
District Assistant Secretary and State Council Member Advocate K N Sugathan’s hand and leg sustained fracture while district panchayat member and CPI district council member Aslaf Parekkodu sustained an injury on the neck.
The information available from the CPI circle says that the injured will leave hospital today (Wednesday).
