KOCHI: Kerala High Court judge V Chidambaresh has created a controversy by speaking highly about the Brahmin section in a function. The judge was speaking at the World Tamil Brahmin Conference when he made the controversial statements.
According to reports, the judge urged the Brahmin community to come forward fighting for their rights. He also stated that more Brahmins should come forward to take leadership in various aspects as they are non-violent, humanitarians and those who respect others’ emotions. “Brahmins have many inborn qualities like cleanliness, high thinking capacity, good manners, vegetarianism and love for Carnatic music. It is high time to decide whether reservations must be made based on caste or economic status. Since I am holding a constitutional position, I am not speaking more about it but I intend to remind you about your rights and talent,” he added.
He also pointed out that while Brahmins can avail reservations only if they are economically backward, others have no such issues. Thus the Brahmin community must come together to abolish caste-based reservations and achieve a respectable position in the society.
However, the judge’s remarks soon found criticism from various corners. While minister AK Balan stated that a judge should not have given such a statement, Congress MLA VT Balram criticised the judge by saying that he was challenging the Constitution through his words
