MUVATTUPUZHA: Ajith’s journey from an auto driver to being the first PhD holder in Malayalam University has been nothing short of magical. The youngster, who was a tenth standard drop out, shared his incredible journey filled with hard work to Kerala Kaumudi online.
Ajith, who lives with his mother and grandmother, had a pretty difficult childhood. His mother went to a pineapple field to earn the family’s bread and look after his studies. Seeing his mother’s difficulties, Ajith set out to do painting works and rubber tapping at the age of thirteen. However, his dreams become shattered when he found out that he failed in his SSLC exams, following which he started to work in a nearby quarry before becoming an auto driver.
However, the desire to continue studying forced him to attempt the tenth standard say exams and pass it. He then went on to pass plus two and joined for Malayalam degree in St Peters College while riding auto during night time and holidays. With proper guidance from his professors, Ajith completed degree and eventually passed M.A.
It was Joby Thomas who taught him at college who advised Ajith to set out for PhD. Though initially apprehensive about completing PHD, he worked hard to emerge as the first PhD holder from Malayalam University. Ajith, who still hasn’t given up his auto, is definitely one to be looked up as an inspiration for youngsters.
