THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The UDF has proposed to share Kottayam district panchayat president’s post between the factions of Jose K Mani and P J Joseph. Jose K Mani faction will get the first term. The proposal was put forward during the talks held between the two factions and the UDF leadership in the capital city. Meantime, it is learned that Jose K Mani has not fully complied with the proposal. The congress leaders have informed Jose K Mani that a final decision will be taken after holding talks with the allied parties of the UDF.

There were reports that congress may take over the president’s post as the two factions were not able to reach an understanding. In the meantime, the two sides have agreed to share the post.

Though the election was originally slated on Wednesday, lack of quorum forced the authorities to postpone the proceedings after the UDF members stayed away.

The Congress representative resigned to give the Kerala Congress the president’s post in the last year of the tenure. However, Jose and Joseph factions announced separate candidates.

Mullappally Ramachandran, Ramesh Chennthala and Oommen Chandy held talks with the two factions. Though the dispute is in the Kerala Congress, the headache is for Congress.
