THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP spokesperson B Gopalakrishnan has fired a salvo at director Adoor Gopalakrishnan’s comment over Jai Sreeram chanting.
“If you cannot tolerate Jai Sreeram call, you had better go to Sreeharikotta, register your name there and go up to the moon or other planets. If need be, Jai Shri Ram chanting will also be done in front of your house,” Gopalakrishnan said in a bit offensive tone.
Gopalakrishnan unleashed his wrath on his Facebook page on Thursday. (Below is the translation of his FB post).
“If Adoor cannot tolerate Jai Shri Ram, he can also change his name and go to some other planet to live. That would be better. Krishna and Ram are one… synonyms… This is Ramayana month. Sreeram chanting will hence rise in India and neighbouring countries…
People had voted only for the chanting of Jai Shri Ram in India. Chanting that name is one's democratic right. If it is not chanted in India, where else can it be chanted? If Gandhiji were here today, he would have sat on Sathyagraha in front of Adoor’s house.
Sir, you are a cinema director who should be honoured but don’t condemn the culture of the country. Where were you when Mamta jailed people for chanting Jai Shri Ram…when Pinarayi declared 144 and booked people for chanting Saranam… and when a student stabbed his classmate…you didn’t react at that time…Where you in mouna vritha (the penance of observing silence). We know that your opinion against Jai Shri Ram chanting is sour grapes… or is it because you didn’t get anything from the Centre or is it for getting something from the Centre?... Scornfully”
