PATNA: A petition was filed in court against 49 eminent citizens, who had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi over mob lynching.
In a petition filed in Bihar Judicial Magistrate Court, petitioner Sudhir Kumar Ojha alleged that the 49 signatories to the letter had, by their act tarnished the image of the country and undermining the impressive performance of the Prime Minister.
They are also alleged to have supported separatists. In the petition, Ojha also named actress Kangana Ranaut and others, who were among 61 high-profile personalities to counter the letter, to be included as witnesses. The petition requested the court to charge the 49 citizens with sedition.
On Tuesday, July 23, Aparna Sen, Ramchandra Guha, Adoor Gopalakrishnan, Mani Ratnam, Revathy were among the eminent personalities who had written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressing their concerns over growing cases of lynchings and suppression of dissent. Following this, the BJP Kerala sector came up against Adoor Gopalakrishnan. BJP spokesperson B. Gopalakrishnan said that ‘Jai Shri Ram’ will be sloganeered in front Adoor’s residence, and he should go to the moon if he can’t tolerate that.
