THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP spokesperson B Gopalakrishnan courted controversy after he criticised renowned film maker Adoor Gopalakrishnan for signing the letter sent to Prime Minister against mob lynching. The letter was signed by celebrities from various fields. The issue stoked a controversy when Adoor Gopalakrishnan gave a tit-for-tat response. The BJP leadership is not happy on it. The BJP state leadership assess that political opponents gained from his statement.
B Gopalakrishnan came with the Facebook post at a time when the custodial death case, University College issue and the spat between the CPM and the CPI were raging in the state. The language used in the post was also criticized. B. Gopalakrishnan had stated that if necessary they would chant Jai Sri Ram in front of Adoor Gopalakrishnan's house.
Many including Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan called on Adoor and gave his full support. Pinarayi said the Sangh Parivar intimidation against Adoor is highly objectionable and deplorable. BJP's intolerance was debated at the State Film Awards and diverted the course of the controversy to the BJP. Realising it, senior leaders decided not to respond to the issue anymore.
