KANNUR: Prison Advisory Committee has recommended release of 97 prisoners from Kannur Central Jail. The panel recommended the release of those completing 14 years in prison and those above 60 years of age.

More than 100 applications came before the panel for consideration. However, jail authorities informed that a final decision has not been taken on it. This was the first advisory committee meet held after Rishiraj Singh took charge as jail DGP.

The panel meet was convened after 18 months. The meeting is usually held once in six months. The meet was last convened in October 2017.

Jail superintendent T Baburajan, advisory panel members P Jayarajan and M C Raghavan attended the meeting.

Rishiraj Singh told reporters that mobile jammers will be installed as part of beefing security in four jails including hi tech jails of the state. Necessary steps will be taken after examining the complaints obtained from jail inmates.
