KOCHI: The Public Works Department has created a controversy by suspending an official who submitted the report citing the problems of Vyttila flyover which is under construction. According to reports, the department has issued a suspension order to Assistant Executive Engineer VK Shylamol for pointing out the mistake in construction procedures.
It is learnt that Shylamol had produced the report after the second round inspection of the flyover. However, a third-round inspection conducted by a private agency stated that there were no issues with the flyover. Following this, Shylamol was accused of leaking her report to the media and eventually got suspended. The department also accused her of illegally handing over the report to the Deputy Chief Engineer of Vigilance.
The public works department has been under criticism ever since the discovery of the poor condition of Palarivattom flyover and the reports regarding irregularities with Vyttila flyover construction worsened its situation. Meanwhile, public works minister G Sudhakaran has stated that the Quality Control section, which studies about the condition of the flyovers, has not reported any irregularities so far.
