PATHANAMTHITTA: The team that decamped with 4.5 kilograms of gold and Rs 13 lakh from a jewellery in the city was taken into custody from Salem early Monday morning. The team was taken into custody during a vehicle inspection. The vehicle in which they were traveling has also been taken into custody. However, the main accused fled with the gold and cash. The Pathanamthitta police has left for Salem to bring them back.
A four-member team taken into custody was from Maharashtra. The theft took place at the jewellery Sunday evening. The police had yesterday itself nabbed a native of Maharashtra identified as Akshay Patil, an employee of the shop. He has confessed to the crime. The theft took place at Krishna Jewellers on St Louke Hospital Road near the civil station. The team reached Pathanamthitta from Maharashtra.
The shop was not opened yesterday as it was Sunday. As per the instruction of owner Suresh Sait, the owner of the shop, the shop was opened by employee Santhosh and Akshy, for another dealer. Soon a four member team speaking Marathi came to the shop. They barged on to the side of the locker, beat Santhosh and then tied him up. They later stuffed cloth on to this mouth and decamped with the gold and cash.
