NEW DELHI: The central administrative tribunal has ordered to reinstate into service DGP Jacob Thomas who was suspended following allegations of corruption. A division bench of the tribunal passed the order pointing that suspending an official for so long without valid reasons is illegal. Thomas approached the tribunal stating that he was suspended from service for speaking against corruption.
Thomas, one of the senior most IPS official of the Kerala cadre was under suspension from December 2017. Thomas of 1985 batch has still months of service left. His first suspension was for speaking against the government on Ockhi relief measures. He was suspended again after six months for criticising the state government in a book. He was suspended the third time in the name of a probe on the anomalies while serving as the harbour director. He approached the centre and the administrative tribunal against it. He had demanded to withdraw the suspension as it was illegal. Following that, the tribunal who heard his argument directed to reinstate him immediately. The order mentioned that suspending a person continuously is against law and the argument of the government cannot be accepted.
Meantime, Thomas was in news lately speaking on his political affiliations. Jacob Thomas, had openly stated that he has been working with the RSS for 23 years and indicated that he will be joining the BJP soon. Thomas said that he has no differences of opinion with the chief minister. The reasons behind my suspension is baseless. Fake cases have been registered against me, he said.
