THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The excise team bravely nabbed G K alias George Kutty, a notorious drug smuggler in an encounter with them when he escaped from their hands in Bangalore. He escaped when the team was collecting evidence in the case of seizing hashish oil worth 20 crore. Nilambur excise range inspector Manoj received gun shots in his right leg when GK fired to flee from their hands. The bullet went out piercing his knee. Seriously injured Manoj has been admitted at MIMS Hospital in Kozhikode. GK who fired four round of shots towards the excise was bravely caught. The incident happened at 12.15 am this morning at Vaniyambalam in Vandooor.
He was arrested in the case of seizing hashish oil worth Rs 20 crore by a team led by excise circle inspector. He fled from the hands of the excise after attacking the officials when he was brought to Bangalore for collecting evidence. He later fled to Andhra Pradesh after escaping from their custody. An information was obtained that he is in Bangalore when a search was intensified to nab him. As per the instruction of excise commissioner Anantha Krishnan, Thiruvananthapuram excise circle inspector T Anikumar, excise inspectors Krishna Kumar, Pradeep Rao, K V Vinod, T R Mukesh Kumar and preventive officer Madhusoodanan Nair reached Bangalore. The excise team who got information about his work place reached there but he had fled from there. On questioning his friend Kunjunni alias Anirudhan and Muhammed Shaheer, it was understood that he is at Vandoor in Malappuram.
The team later left for Malappuram and the colony his wife and daughter resides is on top of a big quarry. The team reached the colony. The police surrounded his house and when tried to nab him, he fired shots. He tried to flee after firing at another excise team member also. However, the excise team pointed their revolver and faced him with a lathi and caught him.
