CHAVAKKAD: Congress booth president and Puthuveettil native Noushad (44), who was hacked at Thrissur Chavakkad Punna Centre, by bike-borne attackers, has succumbed to the injuries.

Three other Congress workers, who were injured in the incident on Tuesday, is under treatment. The Congress has alleged that the SDPI is behind the attack but this allegation has been refuted by the SDPI.

Earlier, there were Congress-SDPI clash in Punna and yesterday’s attack is said to be a continuation of this. Kaveedu native Bijesh (40), Palayoor Puthuveettil Nishadh (28) and Punna Ayinipulli native Suresh (38) are the persons under treatment in a private hospital in Thrissur. Among them, the condition of Bijesh is still serious.

The attack happened at 6:30 pm on Tuesday. The victims were standing at Punna Centre when 14 goons reached the spot and hacked them.
Though they were rushed to the hospital, the life of Noushadh turned too serious to be saved.

In protest against the attack, Congress held hartal in Guruvayur today (Wednesday).
