MALAPPURAM: Reports say that 60 from Kerala are still in the terrorist group of Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). They are working for ISIS in Afghanistan. The relatives of Muhammad Muhasin, a resident of Edappal in Malappuram, who was killed in an American drone strike in Afghanistan on July 18, received a message mentioning it.

The message said, ‘98 people joined ISIS in just a few years. Of these, 38 were killed and 60 people are still fighting.’ According to intelligence reports, Muhasin joined ISIS through its commander Husayfa al-Baqistani in Afghanistan.

Muhasin was killed in an American drone strike in Afghanistan on July 18. His relatives in Malappuram received a message of his death via whatsapp. The message said your brother was seeking martyrdom.

Muhasin joined ISIS in April 2017. He was missing after going on a pleasure trip from college. He was a fourth year student of an engineering college in Thrissur. He was an introverted person, sitting in his house and was on the internet always.

The message was in Malayalam from a number in Afghanistan. ‘Please do not reveal this to the police, otherwise they will come to your home and start bothering you. Your brother doesn't want this’, the message read. Muhasin died along with Huzaifa-al-Bakistani, a key commander of the Islamic State in the Khorosan province of Afghanistan. The intelligence community has reported that more Keralites are joining the ISIS.
