T K Rajeev Kumar is a director who has gifted Malayalis with a handful of good cinemas. Pavitithram, Ottayal Pattalam, Kannezhuthipottum Thottu, to name a few, have given memorable cinema experience to Malayali audience.
Among them, Pavithram in which Mohanlal had put up a great performance, still haunts the audience. The character called Chettachan enacted by Lal is one of the amazing roles in his career.
In a recent interview to a magazine, director Rajeev Kumar said, “though there have been many surprising moments while working with Mohanlal, the most significant one was the climax scene of Pavithram”.
Rajeev Kumar said that was the one in which Mohanlal’s character lost mental balance. “Just before the shoot, Mohanlal had gone through some discomfiture. Then he called me and said, “see I’ll show only this much”. He ground his teeth and showed me. I also told him that it would be enough.
On the day of Pavithram’s release, prominent Psychiatrist Dr Swararaj Mani called me up and said the first sign of a person sliding into the state of mental frenzy is grinding of his teeth.
The movement of the body will become awkward. Lal has done that mannerism in a beautiful manner. I was dumbfounded.”
Kolambi, in which Ranji Panicker and Nithya Menon are playing prominent characters, is Rajeev Kumar’s new film. Producer Suresh Kumar will also appear in the film in a different role.
