KOZHIKODE: Some reports of the Excise department claims that students even resort to prostitution to find the money for expensive drugs like tablets. In Kozhikode alone, around 100 boys under the age of 18 do this, sources say.

Students choose this way to find money easily for drugs. Earlier, youth used to do theft and drug peddling to find the money for ganja. As prostitutes, they charge up to Rs 1000. They will find the clients by themselves. The police also suspect the involvement of agents.

These boys find their clients at centres of same-sex lovers. They also blackmail their clients for money.

The most favoured drug among college students is crystal metal MDMH (Methamphetamine), locally known as ‘kalkandam’. The high of crystal metal lasts for days. This is popularly used in DJ parties. Pills prescribed for mental patients are also used for intoxication. Students buy these pills from medical shops using forged prescriptions from doctors.

Awareness classes and counselling sessions are being held to prevent such activities.
