THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Siraj newspaper’s Thiruvananthapuram unit chief K M Basheer (35) died in a car accident on Saturday. The accident happened at around 3 am in front of Public Office near museum.
The car that knocked down Basheer was the one in which survey director Sriram Venkitaraman and his friend were travelling.
Meanwhile, the question that who was driving the car at the time of accident still remains a mystery. The onlookers said the over-speeding car was driven by Sriram Venkitaraman but this fact is yet to be confirmed. But the car is registered under the name of his friend Vafa Feroz. Sreeram told the police that she was driving the car.
Police later said CCTV visuals at the spot will be examined to get clarification on this. Sriram Venkitaraman has been admitted in a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram.
The car in high speed had hit Basheer, who was sitting on his bike parked by the road-side. He died on the spot. In the medical examination conducted on Sriram Venkitaraman, he was found to have consumed alcohol. The woman in the car was also taken into custody and was allowed to go home after she was subjected to medical examination.
