THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister K Saseendran has said that steps have been taken by the government to conduct an error-free investigation into the car accident that led to the death of journo K M Basheer. The car in which IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman and his friend Wafa Feroz were travelling rammed bike-borne Basheer, killing him in the mishap that occurred early morning on Saturday.
“There have been allegations of lackadaisical action from the part of the police. Instructions have been given to the DGP to make a detailed inquiry into the incident,” he said.
Regarding the accident, the minister said he had asked the collector and transport secretary to probe the incident and submit the report. “IAS officers are persons who should be role models for the general public in obeying rules of the country. If anyone tries to protect the accused IAS officer, idealistic action will be taken against him or her. Sriram Venkitaraman’s licence will be cancelled soon and any flaw from the part of officials will be examined,” the minister told media persons.
