THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police have recorded the arrest of IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman in relation to accident killing journalist K.M. Basheer. He has been charged with non-bailable sections of the IPC. The arrest was made on the basis of Wafa Firoz’s statement who was in the car with the officer. The arrest was recorded at the private hospital where Sriram is under treatment. A case has been registered under section IPC 279 (rash driving on a public way) and 304A (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) against the two accused.

As per the sections charged, he could be sentenced to 10 years in jail. Sriram will be jailed for a minimum of 30 days before he can get bail.
