KOZHIKODE: The family of K M Basheer, who was killed in an accident involving IAS officer Sreeram Venkitaraman, expressed concern in the probe by the police. Basheer’s brother Abdul Rehman said there is a mystery in delaying the blood tests of Sreeram.
The police allegedly dragged their feet right from the beginning in an attempt to cover up the incident. His family also expressed concern on whether the witnesses will retract their statements. Delaying the blood test of Sreeram is also a mystery. Basheer came home last week and he constructed a new house four months back. A financial assistance should be given to his wife and children and the family wants to meet the chief minister.
The police registered the FIR naming Sreeram as the accused and collected blood samples only after reporters contacted the office of the chief minister and police chief. A team led by DCP reached the private hospital yesterday morning at 11 am and collected his samples after ten hours of the incident.
Meantime, Basheer was buried at Cheruvannur in Kozhikode. He was buried at 5 am near his family house. The body was taken to his home turn after keeping the body in the capital city for the people to pay homage.
