THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The police couldn’t first identify IAS officer Sreeram Venkitaraman involved in the accidental death of K M Basheer. When the police reached the spot first, Sreeram told them that he is a doctor. He told police that the woman who was with her was at the driver’s wheel. As the police couldn’t recognise him, they said, “You move to this side, you only drove the car,” said eye witnesses.
An ambulance reached the spot immediately. Is it okay if I stand here and send the woman home and requested permission to let her go? He soon called an uber taxi and sent her home. The police later took Sreeram to the hospital. The car involved in the accident was removed from the spot within half an hour.
Eyewitnesses said that soon after the accident, Sreeram, who was in the driver’s seat got out and tried to lift Basheer and take him in his car. When Wafa Firoz, who was with him, said that ‘this car won’t go’ he placed Basheer on the road. Sreeram’s feet were not resting on the ground as he was in an inebriated stage, said a native of Sasthamangalam who was on the spot.
