THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The court will consider the bail plea of IAS officer Sreeram Venkitaraman, accused of killing a scribe in a drunken state, today. The special branch report has mentioned lapse from the side of the museum sub inspector. There was a delay of four hours in registering the FIR and a lapse was found in taking him to a private hospital. Not only that, a case was not taken even after registering the accidental death in station documents. DGP Lokanath Behera will hand over the report to chief secretary Tom Jose.
Meantime, the medical examination result not finding the trace of alcohol in his blood will be made known today. His blood samples were taken after nine hours of the accident. Medical experts had advised earlier that the delay in taking samples will reduce the presence of alcohol in the body.
The officer is likely to be suspended today. If a civil service official is remanded for 48 hours, the rule is that he can be suspended without special order. An order is needed to reinstate him into service. The officer was remanded on Saturday night. According to civil service code, disciplinary action can be taken if an officer is found drunk in public place. Action will be taken against the police for trying to topple the case.
