THIRUVNANATHAPURAM: IAS officer Sriram Venkitaraman, who is on remand in the case related to the accidental death of journo K M Basheer, is currently lodged in Medical College Multispecialty Surgery ICU.

Though he was shifted from KIMS hospital to Medical College Cell on Sunday night, a few doctors, who were his classmates in the Medical College, managed to get the permission of the police to admit him to Medical College Multi-speciality ICU, according to sources.

In the ICU also, Sriram, who himself was a MBBS student, is being taken care by his old classmates. Like his stay in the KIMS hospital, his stay in the Medical College Multi-speciality ICU is also said be a luxurious one. But, there are police guards outside the ICU as he is an accused on remand.

Sriram was taken to the cell near Ward Number 20 on Sunday night at 10:30 pm after completing medical examinations on him. It is the cell where in-patient prisoners are lodged.

No serious health issues were found in him during the examination, according to sources. At 11 in the night, he was shifted to the ICU in the Multi-speciality block.

But interestingly, Museum CI, who is investigating the case, has said Sriram continues to be in the cell. Some workers in the Medical College also said that they were unaware of the shifting of Sriram from the cell to surgery ICU.

Meanwhile, police have said that they were not able to record statements or do further investigation into the accident as they were busy with hospital matters. But it is alleged that this excuses are being made to help Sriram evade jail stay. Thus he may get a chance to get bail before he is discharged from the hospital.
