PUNE: One person was killed and a Keralite is missing after the car in which they were travelling in fell into a deep gorge near Koyna Dam at Satara district in Maharashtra. The missing Keralite has been identified as Vaishak Nambiar (40), son of Shashi Nambiar of Kannur Peralasseri.

Vaishak along with his friend Nitheesh Shelar had gone for a pleasure trip to Koyna Dam on Saturday. As per the reports of the police, the car in which they were travelling overturned and fell into a depth of 200 feet at Pammal Nala.

The residents of the area saw the car which met with the accident Sunday morning and informed the police. In a search that followed, the body of Nitheesh was obtained from the car. The car was driven by Nitheesh and as he was wearing the seat belt, the body was obtained from the car. Though a search was conducted by the police and the nearby residents, Vaishak was not found.

On hearing the news, Vaishak’s relatives and some activists of a Malayali Samajam reached Koyna. Though a search was conducted by the RDO, police and forest departments and divers, Vaishak was not traced. Heavy rains are disrupting the search operations.

Vaishak staying with his family in New Zealand reached the place for some official purpose. Komal is his wife and children Avanthika and Anika and mother Prasanna Nambiar.
