KOTTAYAM: Heavy rains continue in the state. The district collectors have announced a holiday for all educational institutions of Kottayam and Kasargod districts. Professional colleges and Anganwadis will also remain closed. A holiday was earlier declared for Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode, Malappuram and Idukki districts. A holiday has been announced for seven districts.

Heavy rains wreaked havoc in many parts of the state. Strong winds and heavy rainfall in Kozhikode has caused extensive damages. Many trees uprooted and fell on top of houses. Vehicles were also damaged. Heavy rains have been predicted in the district today. Iruvanjippuzha and Chalipuzha are overflowing in the heavy rains. After Chalipuzha started overflowing, Chembukadavu and Parapetta bridges are under water. Water has entered houses and shops in several areas. Fire force has asked the people residing in Kodiyathur, Mukkam, Karasseri and Mavoor panchayats to be vigilant.
